If the parties have an interest in a 401(k) or other defined contribution plan, and the participant in the plan started participating before the parties were married, there may be a need for some tracing and calculating the marital and non-marital portions of the plan.
This type of tracing and calculation can also be provided to determine a post-decree non-marital interest in a plan. This could be needed if a plan has been rolled over into an IRA or another employer's plan after the parties' divorce but before division of the plan, or if the plan has changed administrators since the parties' divorce.
